Redeemed in Darkness Page 24

He’d be lucky if they didn’t kick his ass out of the organization, but he wasn’t going to worry about that yet.

“We’re here,” he told Lusahn as he turned into the driveway. When they climbed out of his car, she seemed relieved to have her feet back on solid ground. Still, she looked around the neighborhood with great interest as he led the way to the front door.

The damn key wouldn’t go in the lock, maybe because his hand was shaking so much. When he finally got it to work, Cullen pushed the door open and let Lusahn walk in ahead of him.

As she walked into the living room, her face lit up. Turning slowly, as if being careful not to miss a thing, she smiled, her eyes sparkling with obvious delight.

“So much wood!” She trailed her fingers along the mantel over the fireplace. “And the colors!”

She liked it. That was very good. He’d tried to imagine how his home would appear to Lusahn, whose world was so stark. Because he spent so much time in the dark world of the tunnels, he’d furnished his home in the bright colors of a summer’s day: blues, greens, and sunny yellow. He was happy there, yet he’d also felt that something was missing.

Now he knew exactly what that had been: her. He’d been waiting for this moment his entire life.

He dropped his keys on a side table and headed straight for Lusahn. She stepped right into his arms and kissed him.

Now they were finally alone together, he relearned the fit of her body against his and the way her breast was the perfect fit for his hand. She did some exploring of her own, the whisper-soft touch of her fingers fanning the flames between them.

“Would you like to check out the bedroom next?” He traced kisses along the curve of her face to that spot behind her ear that always made her moan.

She pushed back and looked up at him, a worried look on her face. “We should talk before Lacey and my brother bring Bavi and Shiri home.”

  “Why?”

“Your friend Devlin wasn’t happy about Larem coming with us.”

“No, but he’ll get over it. Besides, Lonzo’s already offered to let Larem go home with him when Laurel releases the two of them from the lab.”

No one knew how all of this would shake out, but a few things were not debatable. First and foremost, Lusahn and the kids were his family now.

“Tell me the truth, Cullen. How much trouble are you in for bringing us here?” She rested her forehead against his chest.

“I don’t know, and I don’t care. Whatever the future holds for us, we’ll face it together. As soon as we get your paperwork straightened out, we’re going to get married—even if I do have to ask your brother for his blessing.” He kissed the end of her nose, making her smile. “You will marry me, won’t you?”

“Yes. With or without my brother’s blessing.” Then she grabbed the front of his shirt and tugged him forward. “So, are we going to check out that bedroom or not?”

  “Yes, ma’am.”

Then he swept his warrior woman up in his arms, and carried her down the hall to his bed.
